The Winstead family can be traced all the way back to 1550 and John Winston. The Winston name

changed to Winstead in 2 steps. Daniel Winston’s (1647-1672)  son was Daniel Winson (1622-1682)

and his son was Samuel Winstead (1671-1726). The name change was made for unknown reasons.

With twelve slaves to sell as part of the estate of Lucy Ann Winstead, her estate was one of a rich lady. Since slaves were very expensive and would have been used to work on a large piece of land, it must be assumed that she also held a sizable area of land.)

At the same time and place the undersigned as acting executor of William Winstead, under a decree of the Williamson Circuit Court, will sell to the highest bidder upon a credit of twelve months, as the property of said estate, NEGRO GIRL BETSY.

SAML. WINSTEAD, Adm'r.
March 25th, 1842

(Editor: It is assumed this SAML. WINSTEAD is brother to Lucy Ann Winstead. Since Lucy died in SEP 1835, this is 7 years after her death. She probably died intestate, leaving no written will. It appears that the wheels of the local court ran a tad slowly.)
