Note of editor, Don Smith: On July 23, 1862, Sergeant Thomas Spencer Williams was discharged from the Confederate Army for being over thirty-five years of age. The discharge papers are in two parts. The top part gives pertinent information useful to the army, while the bottom part is the amount of pay due him, $125.25. The copiest of the top section not only had sloppy hand writing, but he was using a wide nib and/or a lot of ink. For this reason, I have retyped the top part at the bottom of this page.

This is a retype of the top section. I believe that Thomas Spencer Williams was discharged as a private because some other soldier had assumed the duties and rank of Orderly Sergeant.
