·  ID: I924

·  Name: William SELF

·  NSFX: Sr.

·  Title: Sr.

·  Sex: M

·  Birth: Bef 1755 in Prince Edward County,Virginia

·  Death: Abt 1846 in Hancock County,Mississippi

·  Note:

It is not known where William Isaac Self, Sr. was born. He reportedly married Dicey Vaughn (b. about 1775 in Bedford County, VA) on January 21, 1795 in Bedford County, VA. They had six children: Elijah (m. Martha Beavers); Joseph (m. Beardene Rachel; William, Jr (m. Virginia Walker); Jacob (m. Patience Burke); Elias; Dicey (m. Harrison Cooper].

Editors Note: It appears that the above information would not be correct according to the ages of the older children. It is believed that William Isaac Self, Sr. was born in Prince Edward County, VA in 1775 but this would cause the age of his older children too young to have this mother.

From the book, Gone To Georgia by William C. Stewart.
This book is available from many libraries or can be purchased (or ordered) at many large book stores.

p. 308

Like the others mentioned, the SELFs remained in GA for a time before moving west. In Oglethorpe County, Elijah SELF married Patsy BEAVERS 1805 and Harrison COOPER married Dicey SELF 1803 (bonds). (A Wm SELF married Dicey, daughter of William VAUGHAN in Bedford County, VA, 1796). In 1827, Francis SELF was living in Vickerys company, Habersham County, GA, where a number of Pendleton families had gone from Jackson County, GA.

William settled in the Florida Parishes, Louisiana in 1810 and died about 1846 in Hancock County, Mississippi.

A document of promise: William Vaughn to give his daughter in marriage to William Isaac Self Sr. for the total of $150.00. this transpired thus: William (x) Self Sr. and Joseph Barrington of Bedford County Virginia must sign an indenture of transaction as follows: This is to testify that I agree to give my daughter Dicey if please to grant to be married to William Isaac Self Sr. if the above obligation is such that there is marriage between the intended shortly there shall be no cause to fulfill the transaction of $150.00. The above obligation will be void or else remain in full form and justice.

SIGNED, SEALED, TESTE,
in His Presence these two were held sound to the Chief Magistrate, Bedford Cty, Va. Jan 26, 1796

According to the above document of promise William Isaac Self is a Sr. which probably means he has been married before and has children from this marriage.
