Mildred's 2nd husband was Victor C. Overmyer, called "Ovie".
They were married for seven years, from 4 JAN 1977 to 1983.
Mickey and Bobby (Rita Yvonceile Smith and Barbara June Smith)
were visiting them in Shepherdsville, Kentucky when he passed
over to the other side, owing to a heart attack. Mildred told
Bobby one time that if Ovie beckoned her home, she would gladly
go. That may have happen.
Mildred was having trouble breathing, so they rushed her to the hospital. Mickey was called on her cell phone; they were 5 hours from Medford. Bobby was on vacation in Virginia. Mickey talked to her mother by cell phone and told her to please hang on, that they were coming as fast as possible. With Mildred in the hospital room were her three grand daughters, Daphne Lee Parsley, Amber Faith Parsley and Tamera Hope Parsley, two great-grand daughters Tasha Lausen (Age 19) and Stephanie Torrey (Age 18), one great great grand son Dillon Lausen (Age 3), and Pastor Johnny Mack and wife, Fran (Mary Frances Brooks, our cousin). Just ten minutes after talking to her daughter Mickey on the phone, Mildred went on to Glory. She was holding on to Stephanie's hand. She kept asking Amber who was calling her name. Mildred opened her eyes, looked up, smiled brightly and went on to a far, far better place. The nurse exclaimed that she was passing or had passed. They began saying the 23rd Psalm (The Lord is my Shepherd…..), and a single tear flowed down her cheek. Bobby believes that she saw Ovie, that is why she smiled. Her grandson, Michael Bryan Smith, upon hearing the account, said exactly the same thing. Cause of death, pneumonia. The funeral took place on September 25, 2003. At the funeral there was not a lot of weeping nor sad faces. It seems that Mildred had developed cancer, which had been taken out. In the hospital, they found where the cancer might have spread. Knowing that our loved one was in the arms of a loving, caring Savior and not suffering of a terrible cancer, lessened the blow. She is buried in the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, Oregon. Ovie was a veteran, so she qualified to be buried there. |
