ANOTHER SELF CEMETERY

Take US Hwy. 171 south from the caution light in the center of Hornbeck for approximately 1.3 miles. Turn West onto Barham Road and go approximately 2.1 miles. After crossing the railroad track, the pavement ends and road becomes unimproved dirt. There will be two forks on this road, take the left fork both times. Turn left (east) onto Self Cemetery Road (a sign is at the corner) and go to the end of the lane. Cemetery is fenced and located behind a small white building that can be used for funeral services or meetings. A large front gate has brick post s on each side, and the sign indicates the cemetery was established in 1860.

In the center of the cemetery, many graves are marked by large rocks at head & foot. This is the area where members of the older Self family are buried. Genealogical information in brackets provided by Mack McInnis of Hornbeck. This cemetery was originally copied in 1978 as Pleasant View Cemetery, and that listing was used to help identify many of the almost unreadable markers. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded from just inside the front main gate on the left in zigzag rows on 7 March 1996 by Jane P. McManus. Submitted on 29 September 2000.
